while my fellow keen eye could [and should] write up a much better railroad-themed post than i, i just have to show you these neat-o finds over at viva terra.

viva terra is a fantastic source for eco-friendly home furnishings and accessories; they do a great job melding an international/nature vibe with a modern aesthetic.

check out these shelves are made of reclaimed railroad ties:

and these plinths (also of ties):

both are made of old indonesian railroad ties, and thanks to their age, they have a great, weathered patina. and no two are alike. i love that they are rustic and log-cabin-ny enough to give a bit of intrigue but would still feel right at home among a more modern furnishing. gimme!
